A tribute to the good ship and crew and Gordon Lightfoot's magnificent song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," When the Gales of November Came Early is all steely blue and brown speckles on a very light warm grey background, evoking the drama of Lake Superior.
Ten percent of the sale of of each braid will go to the The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum to support their work of telling the stories of those who have lost their lives on the Great Lakes.
The spinners have spoken and I (willingly and happily) gave in to gentle peer pressure, and it's a joy to introduce Republica Unicornia spinning fiber!
Fiber is a 4 oz/115 braid of 80% merino wool, 20% mulberry silk. The wool is entirely grown, processed, and spun in the United States and Responsible Wool Standard Certified, and while we can't be ENTIRELY sure, we think the sheep's name is probably Colin. (PSST! Sheep have to be sheared and it isn't harmful to them!)
************************************************************************************Everything you see here is made with love and some swearing in fabulous Atlanta, Georgia. Yarn is ethically-sourced (museling-free) and dyed with professional, colorfast, lightfast acid dyes.
Some color bleeding is normal during the first couple of washes. I wash the bejebus out of everything, but some colors are just bleeders.
Your handmade items are magical delicate flowers and should be treated as such. Handwash in cool water with a delicate detergent (I recommend Sock Soap from Tuft Woolens) and lay flat to dry. Machine wash at your own risk (I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your project during machine washing. Those things are violent.)
Yarn and fiber are dyed in a pet-free studio.
I do my best to make sure items are true to color in the photos, but monitors/eyeballs/etc. differ. Blues and greens are especially hard to capture (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, ELECTRIC MRS. PEACOCK.)
If you have a problem with or a question about your purchase, please contact me directly. I'm a reasonable human being.
Thank you for supporting Republica Unicornia!
