Things don’t always go according to plan in the Republica Unicornia.

Grouchy Unicorns are skeins that don’t mean the Head Yarn Wench’s exacting standards: prototypes that didn’t make the cut, skeins where the dye acted a fool, skeins with excessive variation from the standard for the colorway, etc. These quirks are purely cosmetic and do not affect the quality of the yarn itself.

PLEASE NOTE: Photos are representational and do not show the quirks in each skein. I have noted these in the listing, but please buy at your own discretion and remember these are a DEAL. Grouchy Unicorns are not eligible for additional discounts.

QUIRK: A smattering of light/white spots

The Hollow is part of the Poirot Yarn Collection!

The Hollow is a deep, deep slightly brown-leaning port wine color. It would be spectacular in cables! It's close in feel to The Bars and The Bowery Hotel, but Bars is a much more berry-leaning burgundy.

Republica Unicornia's BFL Sock base is 75% Superwash British Bluefaced Leicester Wool and 25% Nylon, 4-ply, 464 yards/100g.

Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) is a British sheep breed that produces the most glorious wool: it's soft but a little sheepier than merino, which means it is less prone to pilling. It has a beautiful luster, takes dye wonderfully, and has good stitch definition. (I love it so much.)

Everything you see here is made with love and some swearing in fabulous Atlanta, Georgia. Yarn is ethically-sourced (museling-free) and dyed with professional, colorfast, lightfast acid dyes.

Due to the nature of hand-dyed yarn, I recommend that you alternate skeins in larger projects. There are often variations even within the same dyelot, so if you need a larger quantity than is available here (say, for a sweater), we've got the solution for that!

Some color bleeding is normal during the first couple of washes. I wash the bejebus out of my skeins, but some colors are just bleeders.

Your handmade items are magical delicate flowers and should be treated as such. Handwash in cool water with a delicate detergent (I recommend Sock Soap from Tuft Woolens) and lay flat to dry. Machine wash at your own risk (I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your project during machine washing. Those things are violent.)

Yarn is dyed in a pet-free studio.

I do my best to make sure items are true to color in the photos, but monitors/eyeballs/etc. differ. Blues and greens are especially hard to capture (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, ELECTRIC MRS. PEACOCK.)

If you have a problem with or a question about your purchase, please contact me directly. I'm a reasonable human being.

Thank you for supporting Republica Unicornia!
