Update to Shipping Policies (UGH)

Shipping Policies, Effective September 22nd, 2020

Republica Unicornia chooses to ship USPS for a lot of reasons: it’s cost effective for you as the customer and for me as a tiny business owner, the USPS delivers to parts of the country (rural areas) that the privatized carriers do not, and it feels like my duty as a citizen to support the postal service that is guaranteed in our constitution. The USPS is one of the things in America that works for all of us. Well, it was, anyway.

I’ve shipped orders USPS for years without a problem. However, recently, in large part because of funding cuts and a concerted effort by a certain someone to undermine the validity of voting-by-mail, the entire postal system is under stress. This extends to carriers, too, and because your mail is hand-delivered, it is understandable that mistakes may be made.

Because of all of this, I’m making some changes to the way I do shipping.

Orders up to $125 will now be a flat-rate of $8. This is so I can start sending thingsPriority Mail rather than First Class. Priority Mail includes up to $100 insurance, which protects both of us. Orders over $125 will ship free.

Due to the stress the USPS is under, please give items additional time to arrive before contacting me. I know it’s frustrating. If you have not received your package within 15 business days of ordering, please email me so we can file a claim. Upon resolution of the claim, you’ll either receive your original package or we will refund your money. This may take some time. You are within your rights to file your own claim with the USPS, but please be aware if you do so, Republica Unicornia cannot issue a refund. It’s between you and the USPS at that point.

Republica Unicornia is a one-person show, which means that I make everything by hand, andI am limited by what I physically can do. I don’t have a warehouse of things to choose from if something goes missing (like Amazon does). This, along with the fact that many of my items are actually one of a kind (especially bags), means that I will no longer be able to replace the contents of lost packages. I have tried my best to do so (when possible) up to this point, but it’s just not sustainable. If we get to this point, we'll issue a full refund for your original order.

From the beginning, I’ve worked really hard to keep shipping hassle-free and reasonably priced, and I really hate to have to make these changes. One thing I did not know as a customer that I do now as a business owner is that once a package is out of my hands, it is out of my hands. I do not have the power (no matter how much I want it) to move things along in the USPS system.

I appreciate you hanging in there, and your support of Republica Unicornia means the absolute world to me. There is nothing I love more than you having happy mail days, and I hope that these changes will help more of those happen.

Also, y’all, this is your reminder to VOTE. I’m doing all of this as a direct result of the actions of the current administration and ruling party. It is my hope that these changes to our shipping policy will not be permanent.

Thank you so much for being here. You're the best.
